Edward Doyle

Whilst Flexible heads to the Rolex World Championships to defend his crown, his half brother Samgemgee got his international campaign for 2013 off to a very respectable start when placing 6th out of 80 competitors in a CSI 3 star, €23,000 jump off class at the Zangershiede Z-Tour in Belgium. The show continues today, and next week sees Ed head to the 3 star show at Lummen. 

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has named Flexible, bred by Edward and Catherine, as the 2012 International Horse of the Year.

Flexible and rider Rich Fellers had a superb year, contributing to US Olympic Team victory at Del Mar and Spruce Meadows, and winning the Rolex/FEI World Cup Final, the first American win for 25 years.

Flexible and Rich were also the highest placed American pair at the 2012 London Olympics earning an 8th place finish in the Individual Jumping competition.

Flexible is short listed for Horse of the Year by the American Equestrian Federation.

2nd December, 23012. Edward and Catherine receive the prestigious International Show Jumping Breeder's award again in honour of their breeding of leading show jumper Flexible.

Horse Sport Ireland has announced the 15-strong team that has been selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses 2012. The Championships will take place in Lanaken, Belgium, from the 27th to 30th September this year.

Edward will be riding 6 year old home-bred Cushions (ISH), owned by Manuela Martinelli. Cushions is a 2006 chestnut mare by Flexible (ISH) out of Ard Flo (ISH), and has shown great promise so far this year, having won the six and seven year old class at the National Young Horse Championships earlier this month.

"Kildare riders returned to the winner's enclosure as Edward Doyle demonstrated his usual consistent form to claim the six and seven-year-old championship. Riding Manuela Martinelli's six-year-old Cushions, Doyle set the bar high as first to go in the 10-way jump-off, and clocked the winning time of 37.37.

Bred by Doyle himself, the six-year-old is by Flex A Bill [sic] our of Ard Flo. He was sold to Martinelli last year and since changing hands, has clocked up a series of good results including fourth in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping Series Final at Tattersalls, third in the six-year-old championship at Dublin and a win in six-year-old championship at Kilmeague International."

In the 4yr old championship final on Saturday afternoon Edward finished 5^th on Lisa Cawley’s Marrina. She is a ½ sister to Golden Exchange who won the 6yr old championship at the RDS in 2011.

Later on in the 6yr old championship final Edward finished 3rd riding Manuella Martinelli’s Cushions. The daughter of Flexible had a clean sheet all week.

Samgemgee did not make the show but is well on the mend and due back in the ring shortly.

Well done to all of Team Ireland for a captivating performance at the London 2012 Olympics, and congratulations to Rich Fellers and Flexible for a top 10 finish in the individual jumping. Next up: Dublin Horse Show.

Finally the 2012 Olympics are here and countdown begins for the showjumping which commences next week. 

Ed has booked his ticket and will take great interest and pride in watching homebred stallion Flexible (ISH) performing with Rich Fellers on the American team. It's an exciting time for Punchestown House where Flexible was born and reared until, as a 6 yr old, he was sold to Rich.

4 year old class

Edward qualified with Noel Cawley's home bred Marrina. This daughter of Ramiro B won the qualifyer at Coillog when she finished first of 93 starters. She is a 1/2 sister to Golden Exchange who won the 6 year old championship at the RDS in 2011. 

 

6 year old class

Edward has qualified two well bred jumpers for this class, Cushions, Manualla Martinall's exciting daughter of Flexible and Diamonds from Natal, a son of Natal.
